Little Mount (Chinna Malai in Tamil) is a place of great religious, historical and tourist importance, since being associated with the Apostle St.Thomas.

There is a tradition that the Apostle St.Thomas was actually handled brutally more than once. In order to save his life,

St.Thomas is reported to have sought refuge in the jungles of Little Mount. A cave on this hillock offered him shelter. One could still see this cave, which is far from artificial.

There is a spring on the rock behind the church, called perpetual spring of St.Thomas. It is traditionally held that St.Thomas struck the rock with his stick and instantly water gushed forth and thus the crowds that came to hear him quenched their thirst.

A cross of one foot high is seen which entirely resembles that of Great Mount except in size.
