St.Thomas is known for his courage and deep faith.
Gospels do not mention much about St.Thomas except in the Gospel according to St.John. St.John mentions him in three places.
When risen Jesus appeared to the apostles, St.Thomas was not with them. He declared that he will not believe until he see his risen master and touch his wounds.
Jesus appeared to St.Thomas and asked him to touch and feel the wound marks. St.Thomas declared "My Lord and My God". John 20:28.
'Doubting Thomas' usage came after this incident. The incredulity of Thomas is the subject of many painters and artists in the medivel ages. Caravaggio painted 'Incredulity of Thomas' which became very famous.
In Kerala, one of the southern state of India, there are St.Thomas Christians who believed to have accepted the good news 'Gospel' from St.Thomas himself. Syro Malabar and Syro Malankara are two catholic rites of many St.Thomas catholics.
According to tradition, St.Thomas established seven churches or Christian groups in Kerala. Malayattoor is a famous pilgrimage centre of St.Thomas christians where Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St.Thomas on the summit of the Malayattoor mount.
The feast at  Malayattoor is celebrated on the sunday after Easter, in memory of St.Thomas touching the wounds of Jesus Christ.
It is a custom among newly weds (of St.Thomas christians) to make a pilgrimage to Malayattoor during the feast season that follows their marriage.
